Science Investigation

The kids love watching the tadpoles, and today they brought out their magnifying glasses to get a better look. Evidently they have been learning about science from watching Sid the Science Kid on tv.

Tadpoles!

A colleague of Erin's gave her a container with 20 tadpoles for her classroom. Since they weren't on the SOL tests, Erin decided they'd get better use at home with the triplets. I'm just hoping they survive long enough to turn into frogs.

Bird Watching

Now that it's Spring, we've all been watching birds at the bird feeders, and watching them build nests. Coraline especially requested a birdhouse kit to build and paint (pink), and now we're waiting for a bird family to discover it.

Coloring Time

Arthur has gotten quite proud of his coloring skills. I've set out over-sized coloring books, and he spends days working on coloring them all in. Sometimes he asks his sisters to help him with the backgrounds.

Tree House, Stage I

Since the weather is warming up, I decided it was a good time to start on the kids' treehouse. This is the first stage, basically a platform a few feet off the ground (though on the left side, there's a steep drop off down a hill). I tried to think of what would be safest for 3yr olds to play on. Soon we're going to add a ladder on the left side, balance beams off to the right, and put up a few boards to hold a tarp above it all. Stage II, possibly when they turn 4 this summer, will involve a second level, with railings, a trap door, and a rope ladder.

Hospital Visit

Today we took Coraline to the doctor's for a follow up to her urinary reflux diagnosis last year. For the past year she's been taking a low-dose antibiotic as a preventative. She doesn't like it, and eventually through such a fit over having to take the liquid medicine every day, that we switched to a pill. For some reason, she liked the change, and was able to take a pill with a glass of water (followed by an m&m). So we took her in for some xrays, and were quite pleased to find that she had outgrown her condition. Coraline was thrilled that she doesn't have to take her medicine anymore, that is, until she realized that she wouldn't be getting an m&m anymore either.
